Both the game and the book are in Swedish only, unfortunately.

I've emailed the company that released the game a while back asking whether they were planning an English version... they said "maybe". Which means "No". :(

I think, Sveakampen means "The fight for Sweden" ... as far as I remember, Svea was the short name for Sweden once, but I'm not sure though.

At first I thought it meant "The swordfight" but I found out that wasn't true, so the first one is my best bid :)

*professional linguist hat on*
Svea is the name of a viking tribe, the predecessors of Swedes. Swedes as a nation appeared when the Svea tribes from the north and Gothic tribes migrating from today's Germany merged. "Kampen" sounds like a Germanic route that means "camp" in English. As far as I remember the plot of the book (I haven't read it), it's about some guys who are going to a fair to have fun and engage in swordfights. So it probably means "The Svea Camp".

Allow me to translate a bit of the text from the back of the Sveakampen book which is a short summary of the book.

"This is the story about how Udo, son of Boge, as a 17 year old guy got the ship Helga and about how he and his friend went out on their first journey one nice summer day in the end of the 9th century.

Here it's mentioned how he got the name Udo the Fox, got himself a vital enemy and participated in the big Sveakampen on Birkö."

To me it doesn't sound at all like "Sveakampen" is a camp of a tribe. To me it sounds more like a fight for Sweden ... or a tournament of some sort.

Just thought I'd put this into the conversation :)

hmm... i find this to be interesting. But as I found out of this conversation - the book was written in Swedish. It's a pity. :( I'd love to read it in English. I like to read about the life of people who lived centures ago in scandinavian countries, there traditions, adventures... It is really interesting! Well, may be when I'll go to Stockholm, I'll try to get it. And ask my friend to translate it. :)

I think so:
1) Svea - Swedish, Sweden;
2) Kampen - Fight, Battle, Camp, Liberation war, reflection of the enemy, protection interests of own nation.

Correction: If you read the news correctly, you'll notice that the summer tour of 2004 will only happen if all the other things go as planned - meaning IF he get to release a new album around next winter and IF the promotion afterwards goes well and such.

But otherwise yes - the summer tour of 2004 will be a good occasion to go on a concert in Sweden :)
